I just noticed all the name games are being deleted. Does anyone know why?
Why are all the baby name games getting deleted?
Technically, they violate the community guidelines. The games don't really follow the q%26amp;a format. They don't give informative answers. I think it's considered chatting too. So yea... I like the games though.
Reply:I hate how these questions are getting deleted that are non-offensive or rude. I hate seeing these trolls on here asking if they can name thier son Dildoface, but those get to go through without being reported? However if you say baby name game it is all of the sudden reported? I think there are some issues here that need to be worked out.
Reply:People are reporting them because they are not seen to be questions. Personally, I think they're fun and interesting to think of some new and different names, and people should just not answer if they don't like it, but it is what it is.
Reply:I dont really know but they need to STOP deleting them because I LOVE to play them!! They need to save them under something else!!
Reply:People report them or Yahoo deletes them
Reply:i have played one today and one yesterday so im not sure.

Do you think this baby name is weird?
I have a friend and her name is Alexandra and her husband's name is Mason so they named their baby Malandra because it is a combination of their names. Do you like the name Malandra?
Do you think this baby name is weird?
I know there are so many haters but i like the name malandra, i dont think it sounds like malaria or any other disease. to me it sounds really exotic and beutiful. I think that if they really like the name they should go for it, because its really pretty, and its their baby so its their choice. Also, i can think of a ton of good nicknames for malandra, for example, mala, andrea, andra, ann, malena(like elena with an m), mel, Mel-anne..... yeah, i hope i helped, good uck to your friend!!!!
%26lt;3 kickie
Reply:I'm going to agree with what someone wrote earlier...it sounds like a disease!! Children are already harsh with other's names...this one will definately gets it's share of criticisim.
Reply:Yeh i think its a cute name !!
but when the baby gets older and if she doesnt like her name she could just be called andra
Reply:Its a really bad attempt at trying to be different. And now she sounds like a disease.
Reply:Anything that starts with "Mal" sounds bad -- think of Malfoy Draco in the Harry Potter books. "Mal" is a Latin prefix that means "bad," so psychologically they're setting up that kid for failure.
Reply:hmm i dunoo, Mason can be a girls name now adays, Macen, Masyn nickname Masy/Macey
Why dont they give the kid its own name?
Reply:I don't like it
Reply:i like it! Its different and unique and the baby is different from the common names
Reply:I think it is unusal not weird!
most people don't get called by the full name if it is long anyway, so if it is a boy it could be known as
Mal or Andy
and if it is a girl perhaps
may or Lani!
i like it!
Reply:That's bad, really really bad.
Reply:I'm not a huge fan of Malandra, but I've heard ALOT worse. I think if I knew somebody named that, it would eventually grow on me. But I wouldn't choose that name in a million years.
Reply:it's cute and also have meaning
Reply:Well, even though it sounds a lot like Malaria, i think that Malandra is a nice name. I have never heard of anything like it and its different. I like different. Malandra fits.
Reply:I don't really like it...no.
Reply:I personally dont like it
Reply:ITS CUTE BUT. . . .. . . I'M GLAD ITS NOT MY NAME (lol) .... SORRY BUT I THINK THAT THEY COULD HAVE COME UP WITH SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT... MAYBE YOU WILL GROW TO LOVE IT . . . :0)
Reply:No, but then again, it's not my child.
Reply:it's ok there are some better names but it's good
Reply:No MALANDRA that sounds like a disease.
Reply:It's different...and different is good
Reply:I like it! What the hell... are people supposed to just keep using the names Emily, Madison, Jacob or Dylan to keep all the boring, unimaginative people happy?
Reply:We are naming our little girl Alexandra and Mason is a nice name but I also agree with the girl/woman who said that it sounds like a disease (too close to Malaria maybe?). Anyway, it's their choice but I think they could find a better unique name.
Reply:Yes thats terrible, my daughters name is Alexandra.
Reply:its kinda like a Kath%26amp;Kim name dont you think
Reply:i dont liike it but it would be better to be malaxandra.
Reply:To be a bit blunt- yes, I think its awful. That baby girl doesn't need a name that sounds so close to Salamander.
She needs her own unique name- not a combination of her parents. She's her own person, isn't she?
Reply:no they could have done better.
like Massandra. still a bit crazy but it sounds better than Malandra.
Reply:It reminds me of malaria and according to Behind The Name it means 'naughty' and 'rascal' in Portuguese. Not a name I'd like to have.
Reply:I have heard of the name Malandra before. There is an actress called Malandra on British Television. However, in answer to your question, yes its an okay name. I don't really think that it really matters if I, you or anyone else likes it though. It's lovely that your friends thought of it like that. Good luck to them and if they are happy with the name then you, as a friend, should be happy for them.

What is your favorite cultural or regional baby name?
Is there a favorite name that reflects your cultural lineage? A girl or boy..doesn't matter.
What is your favorite cultural or regional baby name?
As you know I am quite fond of Braunshitta, but that one is becoming far too common (I have eight daughters named Braunshitta, but that is okay since they are with eight different women).
I think I will name my next daughter Rectalla, that means "lovely flower" in my culture.
Reply:I am a Hawaiian Native at Heart (thus Heart's 808) I always wanted to name a Daughter Malia (Hawaiian for Marie) and a Son Kai...Both Hawaiian Names...But my Husband wasn't Crazy about the idea, He felt our Children were TOO WHITE to carry off those Cultural Names...But I could TOTALLY See my Erick being a KAI (Little Blonde, Blue-Eyed, Tan Surfer Boy and Taylor would be a Perfect Malia...I should have stuck to my guns!
Reply:Evan was supposed to be Dante, right through my pregnancy I knew his name. But he was born with flamin' red hair. "We can't call him Dante," I told Mr. Mozz, "That's just mean."
Gina is a guinea through and through. If she were to be a boy she would've been Dominic Lou.
Reply:Yes... we take either Le Garcon or La Fille (depending on child's gender) and then do de or d' something. I got to be La Fille de Salade.

Can someone give their opinion on this baby name?
Following an episode involving much flirtation and export strength Gin, my housemaid has found herself 'in the family way' with my child. My wife and I will raise the infant as our own, but I have thought about naming him 'Mistake'. Is this any good as a baby name? Or if this is too obvious, possibly 'Mishap'?
Can someone give their opinion on this baby name?

Or maybe you should just try to keep it in your pants???

I know i want to go to nursing school, but is their a specific name for a nurse who works with babies?
well i am planning on going for my rn im applying for fall quarter at cincinnati state hopefully.
anywho
do i just go for my basic RN.??
because i would like to work with babies, maybe in the NICU, or for instance after the baby is delivered, with weighing etc. things like that.
um is this basic RN or something else?
just curious thanks
I know i want to go to nursing school, but is their a specific name for a nurse who works with babies?
Mizzme,
The nurses who work in the newborn nursery are usually RNs, though some hospitals prefer to have the RNs have some experience on a general pediatric or medical-surgical floor prior to starting in the NBN, After working in the NBN the nurse will usually advance into the NICU. There is no specific educational process at most facilities, but a preceptorship/orientation phase is usually part of the process. Also most RNs who work in this area are required to be PALS certified as well as CPR certified.
RNs who work in the newborn areas are called neonatal nurses. Nurses who go into advanced practice as a nurse practitioner in this area require a master degree which is taken after completion of the BSN. The MSN is usually a 24 month program at most schools, though a few 18 month programs still exist. These advanced practice nurses are Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. (Many get dual degrees as pediatric and neonatal nurse practitioners)
Reply:US_DR_JD is correct. I will further add that depending on the model of nursing the individual hospital uses, not all will have a designated Newborn Nursery Nurse. Many hospitals have the RN provide couplet care for both the postpartum mother and her newborn. It's important to find out the model of care the facility you're applying at uses so you know what you're signing up for.
Working in labor %26amp; delivery is a good experience in learning to care for the newborn immediately after birth. You learn Neonatal Resuscitation, all kinds of high risk conditions, and how to perform key assessments. It's a good prep for moving on to a Level II Nursery (a step-down from NICU) or into the NICU.
Keep in mind that NICU is a whole different kind of care, it is a critical care environment and there will be some very difficult cases you would be dealing with on a daily basis. It would be very hard to go into this environment as a new grad, even though some will hire you as a new grad.
I strongly recommend getting experience in a less critical environment and easing yourself into progressively more challenging work environments. Good luck!
Reply:The name is Pediatric nurse or labor and delivery nurse.
Choices: It is best if you go for your RN degree and the reason for that is they are trying to change the rules where LPNs (below RN 1.5 years in length) who are not grandfathered in need to get their RN license %26amp; nurses with an Associate degree (2 years but still RN) need their BSN. Nurses who have their BSN RN (4 year degree) can transition easily into becoming a nurse practitioner(NP) which takes an additional 1.5 years if you go full-time. If you decide to be an NP then you can specialize you will be one step below a doctor %26amp; above a PA (physician Assistant).
Hope that helps

anywho
do i just go for my basic RN.??
because i would like to work with babies, maybe in the NICU, or for instance after the baby is delivered, with weighing etc. things like that.
um is this basic RN or something else?
just curious thanks
I know i want to go to nursing school, but is their a specific name for a nurse who works with babies?
Mizzme,
The nurses who work in the newborn nursery are usually RNs, though some hospitals prefer to have the RNs have some experience on a general pediatric or medical-surgical floor prior to starting in the NBN, After working in the NBN the nurse will usually advance into the NICU. There is no specific educational process at most facilities, but a preceptorship/orientation phase is usually part of the process. Also most RNs who work in this area are required to be PALS certified as well as CPR certified.

Reply:Living in Atlanta, the names one hears here are often unusual--sometimes good, generally embarrassing. Around metropolitan areas like Atlanta you will frequently hear attempts by Blacks to honor (?) their African forebears by giving Arab or Arab-sounding names to their offspring. Of course, nearly 100% of slaves brought to what today is the USA came from coastal, sub-Saharan, super-Kalahari western Africa, so this is an error of ignorance. Personally, I do not care for the common habit of placing a "De" or a "La" before a European name, but the result is usually not too bad.
I recall listening to a local radio station in the early 1990's here in Atlanta on which they were making Christmas gift wishes come true for children. If I understood the rules correctly, the parent and child called the station and left a recording with the pertinent information. From these recordings the radio host would select one each hour (half-hour?) to play on air and to grant the desired present. One little girl's recording went like this: "Mah name Shaka-ma-kunta, %26amp; I wants a Barbie!" However the child's name might have been spelled, it was clearly an unusual name that could well cause her some grief later in life. The radio host said, "Um, okay." "You'll get your Barbie." "Maybe you would also like a real name, like Mary or something." I believe the DJ was fired subsequently.
Also, I have acquaintances--many generations American-born--with these names: Toiletta (female), and Mabute Isde Nki (male), who prounounces his name something like "My booty is stinky," or "My booty is dinky." In both cases they have very common Euro-American family names, so I suppose the unusual given names balance that out. Both are lovely, intelligent people--but, what were their parents thinking?

What do you think about the baby name Vannyn Celeste for a little girl?
You made it up? That's awesome, I'm liking Vannyn, very unique! And you can give it your own meaning!
My mother had fun with my name, it's pronounced Belly-roo, I love that I'm the only one who owns that name, lol.

Its okay. Doesnt flow that well and I`m not sure if I`m pronouncing (Vannyn) it correctly. I`ve been checking some websites, did you make up the name?
I think Vanessa Celeste is a beautiful name. Flows much better. Its quit unique also. Good luck! Celeste means heavenly divine. Vanessa is literary so it has no meaning but there is form of butterfly called Vanessa so the meaning is commonly beautiful butterfly.
EDIT: I like the look of the initials VCN. It looks cool. I would diffidently have go with the name Vanessa it seem to go so well with Celeste. What wrong with having the same name as her future aunty. As an aunt my self I would love that.
EDIT:
What about Vanisha or Vanalynn! I really like Vanalynn Celeste. What about the name Vannah/Vanna. Love the name its like a unique twist on the beautiful Hannah name. The the name is unique but not very classy. Classy means elegant or high rank or grade. I think the name isnt elegant its kinda cold.

I wouldn't change a thing about it.
What about bear inman for a baby name or any suggestions?
Yes I know its odd. But its the only two names we've agreed on that isn't a common name. So your suggestions on each would be nice. =D thanks!
Bear - Bear grylls off of man vs. wild
Inman - from Cold Mountain, actually a very old name.
P.S. any suggestions on cute names too.
Ilike unique ;)
What about bear inman for a baby name or any suggestions?
what about Berrin, or barron
maybe Orson, which means bear cub
yeah definitly not Ursus,
Inman, i really dont like,
maybe Ivan or something
Anyway, good like with that
Reply:My dog's name is Bear. Sorry.
Reply:bear inman is actually quite a cute name =) but it really depends on your surname, like bear grylls is quite obviously welsh or whatever, but if your last name is Smith then it might seem a little odd...
Reply:My dog's name was Bear also.
I think you should think about how your child is going to feel about their name as they grow older.
I know you want unique, and I understand that, but I think Bear is too far out there.
No suggestions unfortunately! I can't think of any at the moment. Sorry..
Reply:If those are the names you have chosen for your child, then use them. But prepare your child for a life of hardship/teasing and questions about the unusual names.
Most people who are called 'Bear' are not actually NAMED Bear. It's a nickname.
Inman is an unusual name, but it's also the name of a man on an old Brit-com who portrayed a gay man.
If neither of those issues concerns you, by all means use the name Bear Inman. This is your child so do what you feel best.
Some suggestions:
Anthony Inman
Bryce Inman
Carter Inman
Darius Inman
Eli Inman
Felix Inman
Galen Inman
Harrison Inman
Ian Inman
Joshua Inman
Kendrick Inman
Lawrence Inman
Marcus Inman

Randolph Inman

Reply:I think it is a very cute nickname but not what I would use as the actual first name. I believe that you should give your child every chance in the world and it may be difficult for him in life with a first name like Bear.
Imagine the name on the top of a resume.
By all means call your son Bear from the second he is born but I would give him a more traditional legal name to give him options as he gets older.
That being said, your childs name is your choice so good luck!
Reply:Why would you want a cute name? They are only children for a very short time.
I can't see many teenagers being happy being called Bear.
Reply:Hey there
I admire your originality! Is it for a boy?
Have a look at this link
It is all the names, male and female, that have the meaning "Bear"

I think its a safer bet to do it that way

Gabrielle Alexandra.
God bless!
Reply:i really like Alexandra

Reply:I like Gabarielle.
Reply:Well think of which ones you are most comfortable with shouting out loud such as OLIVIA! GET IN THE HOUSE! etc. Also consider what nicknames can be made from them.
Olivia = Liv or Livvy
Alexandra = Alex or Ally
Gabrielle = Gabby
Savannah = Vanna or Savy
Reply:Alexandra Michelle
Reply:gabrielle is beautiful and gabby is a cute short nickname.
Reply:well if it's girl what about kendra , aaliyah, avangline, or the last one amber. let me know if it's a girl or boy

Gabriella Marie?
Savannah Grace?
Reply:A friend of mine calls his daughter Gabey (like Gabe-ee) instead of Gabby like most people do. I like it a lot. I like Alexandra because I like Alex.

鈾?You could use Gabrielle Olivia! That's cute! :-) Good Luck!
Reply:This is very much an opinion question, so I will try and do my best. I love the name Gabrielle. Have you looked up the meanings of the names? Here are the meanings of the names you listed:
Gabrielle - God is my might
Olivia - Elf army, olive
Alexandra - Defending men
Savannah - Plateau
After considering the meanings, consider what if anything the initials will spell out. I hope you find the perfect name and if you need any more ideas use this website: www.babynamesworld.com
They have names for boys and girls and their meanings and origins.
Reply:i think you should pick savannah i love it but i cant call mine that because my ex babys name is that pick that its a lush name

Reply:'Alexandra' sounds supreme. When owner of this name grows up, she will feel good as the name is modified from Alexander the Great the legendary conqueror. It also contains four nice sounds or syllables and therefore when someone calls out the name it will be heard clearly and will not be missed.
Do not attempt to seek for a 'perfect' name, because there really is none. Some names just happen to sound much, much better than others. They should never sound too 'rough or hard' like Savannah.
In case you are still indecisive, why not consider these nice-sounding ones:: Angelina, Christina, Christabel,Eleanor, Isabella . Avoid single or double-syllable names which tend to sound too brief/abrupt or too common. Best wishes and let everyone enjoy calling and repeating the beautiful baby's name just for the pure pleasure and fun of expressing the nice sounds!
Reply:I like Alexandra Gabrielle, with Lexi or Sasha as the nickname.
Reply:Alexandra. Nick name Alex for girls always sound so cute.
Reply:gabrielle!
Reply:I like Alexandria, my favorite name, when I have my daughter her name will be Alexandria Lauren, but the Lauren part, will be pronounced like Ralph "Lauren"
Reply:Savannah Alexis
Reply:My sister in law's name is Gabrielle and we call her Gabe, you may or may not like that. In turn, she was an amazing athlete and a beautiful girl. Savannah has a bad meaning, it mean burden one. Alexandra will probably be called Alex, so you may or may not like that. Kinda like Olivia, but none of these names grab me.
How about:

Walk in my babies name?
does anybody know of a walk in los angeles to support stillborn babies?
I know the march of dimes (walk america) is only for premature and healthy pregnancies, but I would like to walk in my babies name for stillborn.
if anybody knows of such a walk, can you please point me in the right direction?
thank you. :(
Walk in my babies name?
Im sorry for your lost. I too have lost 4 children to premature/still born birth. I am not aware of any such march for stillborns but i do know that the march of dimes does research and walks for angels of all kinds. They want to see all births end in a full term healthy birth. I often walk with the MOD/s in my angles names like other mothers do.

How Do You Choose A Baby Name?
I Have Come Up With A Few But None Of Them Stick...But I Think I Used To Love Them But Now That I Am Pregnant Its Different. I Like Leena And Serene The Most Just Because I Remember Them When People Ask...Should That Be The Name I Pick?
How Do You Choose A Baby Name?
I have the same problem as you. We have picked a boys name but cant decide on a girls name. I always remember one, but not the other one. I think that the reason that this is happening to me, is because I have a feeling that the baby is a girl, and I want her to have the perfect name. Not any name will do, but for the boy name it was easy because I dont think its a boy. I think that whatever you name your baby will be perfect. My favorite is Hannah, but my husband doesnt like it. I also like Savannah and Dakota.
Reply:Look back in your ancestory at names way back and also look at middle names. Try the dads side ancestory also. You will be amased at the unique names available.
Reply:I look in books.... I go by feelings about that name.... and then? after baby starts getting active, I do the oddest thing and ask the baby if he or she would like that name.. and try it out the rest of the pregnancy by using it when I am tlaking to the belly/baby... making sure I rub belly/baby while using it.... I also pick one or two names picked out just in case when baby is born he/she does not look like his/her name fits?
with my first child? I had picked her name long before I was grown.. I was ten when I thought I made up the name.. never even heard the name till I was naming her.... and then it was rare... now? lol.. everyone seems to have her name... go figure...
and it is always a team effort... my ex and I did it for our three.. my husband and I did it for our three.... we each choose a name and arrange them so they sound right... if one of us do not like the name picked he or I has to go back to the drawing board to pick another.... until both of us are happy... sigh.. then it run past each other child in the house for their input, feelings... then the baby..... okay... we have an odd system.... but, makes everyone feel they contributed and were a part of it all?
names are tough to choose... all I can say? if you remember those two names? maybe it is what the baby should be named.... they are both beautiful....

Reply:something that gives you a positive image of your child. Maybe stick a middle name that has a family member connected to it. I really like Serene...beautiful!

Reply:Just wanted to say I love your girls names, it is so nice that parents are still using normal names and not strange ones! My baby is due in March and the names I have chosen are James William and Louisa Elizabeth. I chose these after family members, my partner is Jamie and my great great grandad was James. My grandad is William. My gran is Louisa and her mother was Mary Elizabeth. Try looking at your ancestors as you will find some lovely names that aren't really common. My first child is a boy called Nicholas John. I don't know where I got Nicholas from but it is a good strong name that you don't come across very often and my dad and late great grandad are called John. But before you choose a name find out the meaning! My sons name is Greek for Victory of the people, hows that for a strong and courageous name?

Reply:For a boy William. It has many different short forms from which he and his circle of friends can choose acceptable "nick" names.
For a girl Sherry. It means "love" or "darling" in French. (although it's spelled cheri) A good name for a girl, I think.

Does popularity matter to you when choosing a baby name?
It seems like every name I pick I find it being very popular. Do you think it matters if a name is popular? If you have a popular name do you mind it?
Thanks a ton!
Does popularity matter to you when choosing a baby name?
Whether a name's popularity matters is a personal decision. It does matter a lot to me. I want to give my children names that are familiar, but I also want them to be somewhat uncommon. A huge part of the reason we have names is so we can be distinguished from other people -- if everyone had the same ten or so names, it wouldn't work so well. Every time someone called out one of the names, at least 20 heads would turn.
Of course, in real life, everyone DOESN'T have the same ten names. Even a name ranked #1 in the U.S. is given to only about 1% of the babies of that gender born that year -- considering there are two genders, that's only one out of every 200 babies. For some parents, that means that no name is too popular, even if it is ranked #1. Others choose to draw the line in various places. Some parents will consider any name as long as it's not in the top 10. Others will avoid anything in the top 50, while still others shy away from anything in the top 100 or 200.
The more popular a name is, the more likely it will be that your child will have friends or classmates with his or her same name. I teach first grade. Out of 60 students this year, we have two Kaylas, two Gabriels (and a Gabriella), two Kaitlyns, two Jacobs, two Joshuas, and an Aidan, a Hayden, and a Jayden... even though a name may have been given to less than 1% of babies born that year, the most popular names still have a tendency to repeat.
Of course, there are other things to consider as well. If you really love a name and it has important family significance to you, that might outweigh the possible drawback of the name's popularity. Still, I tend to think that if one thinks "outside the box" a little bit, one can find less popular names to fall in love with. For example, if you really love the names Ava, Emma, and Sarah, you might consider choosing the similar-sounding Ada, Gemma, Nora, or Clara. If you love Olivia, you might consider Lydia or Octavia. If you love Lily, you might consider Susannah (which means "lily") or Daisy (another flower name). Some of my favorite names used to be Katherine, Lily, Gabriel, and Aidan. When I realized how popular they were, I managed to find less common replacements that I now love just as much.
I have a name that is very popular now (Emily), but it was only beginning to be popular when I was growing up. I never had another Emily in any of my classes at school. The only other Emily I really knew was a church friend's little sister. I love my name, but I think it would have bothered me if I had always had to share it with friends and classmates.
Reply:Nope i don't care about how popular the name is i just go by whether i like the name or not. Most of the names i like aren't very popular anyways, lol. Like my fav girl's name is Madison and it's becomin very popular but i've loved the name for along time, before it became so popular and my first girl is still gonna be named Madison. And yea i have a very popular name, my name is Jessica, but nope i don't mind it at all i love my name. I love being called Jess, :D.
Reply:I tend to like names that are not too popular. Most are in the top 100 but never ever in the top 20. If I liked a name a lot, I could care less if it is popular or not. It just so happens that I happen to like names that are known but not popular. Some names Iike a lot never ever made it in the top 1000 ever. I have liked names in the past when the names were not even heard of, and if so very rarely and then all of a sudden there is this boom of people naming their children that. It has happenned more than once. It has happenned repeatedly so I guess in part I like names that have the tendency to become popular. Hope I have made sense.
Reply:Yes, I'd more earnestly consider Emma and Abigail if they were not so popular right now. (Though, I already have a niece named Ella, so it's a bit easier to let that one go, since I have an "excuse.") I have top 3 names that are less common, but if I should happen to have more than three daughters (!) hopefully Abigail will be much less common by the time the forth is born... :)
Overall, popularity isn't too important; as long as it is not TOO popular (like the top 10) OR not part of a fad.
Reply:It doesn't matter to me. The name I have picked out for a boy is extremely popular right now (or so they say, I have yet to meet someone with the name) but when I came across it years ago it was fairly unheard of. I still love the name and still plan on using it. It just wouldn't feel right if I didn't, especially just because it is popular.
Reply:My name, Michele, was relatively knew on the scene growing up. I've always liked it!! In my rebel years I would change it back and forth from "Michele" to "Michelle" -- daring, huh?
As I grew older it became far more popular -- but never lessened my liking the choice my parents made.
To me it's always sounded feminine, intelligent and individual, yet not so unique that it is "odd" and you have to wonder what's going through people's heads when they first hear it.
Reply:I specifically look for names that are known but not in the Top 100 list. Growing up being 1 of 3-4 girls in class with the same name, I don't want my child to go through that. They always grouped us together if we sat alphabetically by first name and there was always confusion.
But I also wouldn't want to give my child a name that nobody can spell or pronounce. Or names that are too trendy now and nobody will be giving these names to their kids in 50 years. There are plenty of great names that are not to common or unusual. If you look on the Social Security names list from 101-1000 you'll find lots of great names.
Reply:Yes, it was important to me. I didn't want my child's last name to end up being "Who." You know...
"I saw Ashley today."
"Ashley Who?"
Or worse yet, I didn't want my kid to be a "witch":
"I saw Ashley today."
"Which Ashely?"
And I didn't want my kid to always have their last initial tacked on in order for people to identify them: Ashley A, Ashley T, Ashley M, etc. As a teacher, I felt sorry for those kids. One year I had four Laurens and four Lindsays in the same class! It was nuts!
Reply:Yes, it really mattered to both myself and my husband when we were picking a name. We did NOT want a name that was on the top 40 list (or even the top 100 list).
It took us a while (I was about 27 weeks) before we found a name we both liked that wasn't "popular" or made-up and silly.
Reply:You want a name thats not popular, but not unknown either. If it's too popular they'll get tired of hearing it. If they never hear it then they'll think they're weird. So go with something in the middle.
My name's Kevin. A little too popular for me.
Reply:Umm i dont think it matters so much.
Just pick a name that you like. Just take into consideration what the child might think. Would they get bullied for it? Is it a name that they would end up being ashamed of it?
Reply:To me it doesn't matter. But i live in a small town with hardly anybody having kids so there is slight chance of a name being repeated. If I lived somewhere with a lot of people it might matter.
Reply:Choose a name you like regardless of popularity. What others think is their opinion. You are the one that is going to name your baby.
Reply:I think if I were naming a child, it would matter to me. The only mildly common names I like are Elizabeth, and Amelia.
Reply:Pick one that isn't really popular.

Should I hyphenate my babies last name???
I planned on giving my daughter his last name, but my dad is really worried about it and thinks that I should hyphenate her last name. My boyfriend and I are not planning on getting married any time soon, but I planned on giving her his last name anyways. I only have 9 days until I am due and am really struggling with this. Please let me know some pro's and con's and let me know what I should do. Thanks.
Should I hyphenate my babies last name???
Yes, You should.
Good Luck. = )
Reply:do it as his is and there will be less hassle in court when he decides to get custody.
Reply:i say no, my name was hyphenated and i hated it, my first name is also hyphenated.. it makes it hard for ur child and as a kid they get asked why you have 2 last names etc. i say just choose which way, one of the other, from personal experience its just annoying
Reply:I'd give her my last name, If you got married you can change it or when shes older you can ask if she wants to change it
Reply:Im not much for hyphenating last names. One suffices. But in this case, I'd say do it. Just because you arent planning on getting married anytime soon, and you never know what could happen. You may, for whatever reasons good or bad, decide to split up, and you'll be a single parent. Do you want your girl to have a last name different than yours? Actually, what I would do would be to give her MY last name. I gave birth to her, and Im not married. Then, if/when you get married, you'll be changing your name, you can change your child(ren)s last names at the same time. It will be the thing that brings you all together as a family. Then if anything happens, like I said before, then it would be good that she has the same last name as her momma!
Reply:Give her your last name if you are not married. Once you are married the last name can be changed. I am not married and my daughter is 4. She has my last name and I am glad. Don't hyphenate that is just to much for a child.
Reply:In my family even if you're not married and you have a child with a guy, we use their last name. I was 17 when I delivered my daughter and I have her, her dad's last name. Isabella Elizabeth Pina
Reply:My son has my last name and i am so glad one day when i do get married i will change his name too. I think that it nice for a child to have the same name as their mother!!
Reply:Give her a real middle name, and then hyphenate her name Smith-Johnson. That way, legally her last name starts with Smith.
If you trust your bf, he plans on helping with care and $$, and you feel like it, name the baby after him. If it doesn't really matter to you or your bf, then please your daddy and do it his way.
TX Mom
Reply:It's totally up to you and what you feel comfortable with. I know many people that have given their children hyphenated last names. I don't think it is weird. If your very family orientated then it may be a really good idea (and you will gain brownie points with your dad and other family members :D) Its a decision only you can make. Good Luck :)
Reply:it depends if its long. also, look at the hypednated name.
ex: if your last name is freeman and his is uthman, then it would be Freeman-Uthman. which would be... not good.
sooo~ yeah look ahead. but the good thing is that she will know that during rough times that both of you love her very much :D
Reply:i'm not married but my baby is going to have his dad's last name.
I think your father just wants to continue your family name
you can do it to honor him
Reply:I think it depends on the first name and how long the last name would be if it were hyphenated.
Reply:my daughter is about to be one, and her father and i were plannign on getting married eventually, but we just broke up. i am completly regretting giving her his name, he threatens to have nothing to do with her just to upset me. her dr's office always calls me ms. (his name) if they call. i hate it i hate it i hate it.
Reply:If he owns up to being the father, have him sign the birth certificate and give her his last name and sign the papers that are required to do so. The kid deserves to have the last name of her father, just like you have your father's last name. Being a kid is tough enough. If you and your bf don't stick it out, at least your child will not have to explain why his/her parents never married. Just because your Dad doesn't like your bf - otherwise not sure why he would be opposed to this -does not give him any right to dictate. He had his father's last name. You had your father's last name. And your baby should have his/her father's last name.
FYI - I don't think it's as simple as just signing the papers at the hospital. If you are not married, I do believe he will have to file some sort of petition to the court.
I want to add something to this, since so many people are giving you advice to use your last name only or let them change it when they are older....ANY CLUE HOW CONFUSING THIS IS TO A KID?? My cousin was in the same boat....sorta. She and her husband split up before the baby was born. She took her own name back and had her maiden name when the baby was born. Since she and her ex were no longer on speaking terms, she gave the baby her last name, not his. Her child is now 20, and has had a rough time of it. In school, she felt out of place because the other kids had both a mom and a dad that they knew. And had their father's last names. It made her feel like one parent did not love her. It made her feel like a mistake. And she had a lot of hang ups about it as she got to be a teen. You might think it's not a big deal, but I guarantee it is going to be a big deal for that kid. THE LAST NAME OF THE FATHER SHOULD BE HIS/HER LAST NAME. I don't care what your own moral standards are. Every child deserves to walk into a room with their head held high. At least they will always know at one time in their life, they had two parents.
Reply:Yes, you should definitely hyphenate your baby's last name. Afterall, the baby is coming from both you and your boyfriend. And you're the one who's giving birth. I'm all about equality. And if you both should decide to marry, keep the baby's name as it is. Then you have the option of keeping your name or hyphenating it. Maybe your boyfriend can also hyphenate his name if he's concerned about unity.
Reply:I had the same problem. I named my child after me and my boyfriend. (last name hyphenated) When we got married, I hyphenated my last name too. However, if your two last names are rather long, consider using just one. It might be difficult for a child to spell a long name like that. Good Luck!
Reply:Definitely give her your last name. It will eliminate many problems. Even if you are planning on staying together forever and can't foresee any horrible breakups, etc. you just never know what can happen. And if you do stay together and eventually get married, then you can always change her name legally.
