Is there a classy way of putting a baby name on an aphgan?

with yarn, or is that tacky? I'm a beginner at this thing, and I really love it. Please help, thanks!

As mentioned, if the afghan is knitted, you can use duplicate stitch or the crochet slip-stitch. I've done counted-cross-stitch on afghans that were crocheted in afghan stitch or in single crochet, but I doubt that it would work well on any other stitches.
Reply:If the afghan is knitted, yes, there is a way -- and it's not even hard. I do this on my knitted sweaters all the time. Take a crochet hook of medium size and some yarn that's baby weight or worsted weight (size category 3 or 4.) Work from the front. Hold the yarn behind the afghan, reach through it with your crochet hook, and pick up the yarn. Now, do a simple chain stitch through the afghan. You can write or draw anything on anything this way, with curved lines and all. Watch your tension, of course. It's fun to outline things you've knitted into the pattern of a knit this way, too. When you get to the end, pull the yarn through like you do to end a normal chain stitch. Then, of course, hide the end.

Reply:Depends on what the size of hook you are using is. A smaller hook would produce a tighter stitch and then look better if you were to embroider a name on it. Maybe in a cursive looking lettering.
Reply:If it is knit, use duplicate stitch - check the web. Crochet- if in afghan stitch, again check the web for directions. You will need a yarn needle. Conny L.
Reply:Go to www.crochetcentral.com. Go under Baby afghans, and then to Personalized baby afghan. I've done this on many blankets and it comes out beautiful.
Reply:No, I think that would be almost impossible with an aphgan. You could do it with a quilt though and it would be really cute.
