Why dont women name their babies?

Why dont women name their babies after them like men do ? Like... Tina Marie JR

... Tina Marie 3rd

Do you know anyone who has ever done that ?

Why dont women name their babies?
Designer Carolina Herrera's daughter is named Carolina Herrera Jr.

Women do not have to change their names when they marry, and there's no law in the U.S. that says you have to use either parent's surname for a baby.

So John Smith could marry Betty Jones and they could name their daughter Susan Johnson. Really.

I'm not a big fan of "Junior" for a boy either...and have you noticed how "III" becomes "Trey" and "IV" gets called "Ivy?"

Babies are individuals, they deserve their own names...maybe with mom's or dad's as a middle name.
Reply:I think it's a male dominance thing, back before the middle of the 20th century, most women weren't successful on their own (didn't need to be), they were suppose to get married and have babies, naming sons JR, or 3rd, ensures a family name would be carried on. I have actually seen girls named after their mothers, grandmothers, or aunts (I'm a genealogist), but normally it's not jr or 3rd, and most women didn't keep or hyphenated their maiden name until recently, they didn't really need to keep it. Sometimes children would have their mother's maiden name as a middle name, or even first name

Real example from my husband's family tree:

Mother: Lydia Elizabeth Beeman

Father: Louis Joseph Green

Son: Lowell Beeman Green (husband's great grandfather)

Another real example from my tree

Mother: Mary Valentine (yeah really)

Father: James Mayo

Son: Valentine Mayo (GGGGGGGG grandfather) lol, I'm a little obsessed
Reply:I really don't know. I never heard anybody does that. It is kind of unusual but you can be the first one.

In my country, baby ALWAYS gets his father's last name but I chose to give my baby, my last name as her middle name. It is kind of new thing in my country.

There is always a first time for everything.
Reply:I knew a lady once who named her child after her. Nancy Jean. It was her exact name and she just called her Nancy. I thought it was really strange. They both just went by Nancy. I thought it was quite complicated myself.

If a man can do it, why not a woman? But, personally, I think it is stupid for a man or woman. Give a kid it's own identity and not named after mother or father. I think it's the least that you can do for your child.
Reply:I wouldnt name a child after me but i would possibly give them my middle name, i would use my parnets or grandparents names as middle names for my daughter but i like unique names and my family womans names arnt unique but i would carry them on for generation
Reply:I know some girl babies who were named after their mothers.

I think the reason it's not as common as with boys is because traditionally women didn't keep their last name.
Reply:My friend has her mom's name. I have seen mothers give their daughters their name but it's less common than men naming their sons after them.
Reply:No, but very interesting question.
Reply:because with females our last names chance with marriage therefore i would not be a jr to my mom having a different last name
Reply:Because men decide what to name their offspring. The woman has no say in the matter.
Reply:I thik its wierd
Reply:somebody d is right. Boys will Always carry on there daddy's last name !
Reply:No. Because I never thought of that!
Reply:I named my daughter after me!! Didn't add the JR to it though
