Can i put his name on my babies birth certificate?

i'm having a baby and the father is here in the US illegally..i didnt know he was here illegally until after i was pregnant..because he speaks english very well and has been in the United States for over 5 years..we are not married, i was just wondering will i be able to put his name on the babies birth certificate even if he doesn't have a US Social Security Number?

Reply:Just put his name down and unknown next to social security number and get him to sign it (if you need to file for child support this will help). If he has a alien or passport number he could proabably put that down as long as he states what it is in paratheses.


Also, usually on top of birth certificate forms there should be instructions that state that you can put unknown down for any parts you don't know or are uncertain about. You can amend it later if you feel it is necessary. If it turns out to be a problem later (I doubt it though) you can truthfully state you do not know that information and do not know how to get a hold of it.

I remember my friend not being able to collect a few years ago, maybe the law is different in each state and maybe it has been revised since then, but to my knowledge you can't get child support but his name can be on the birth certificate and he can sign it as well.

Reply:If you 2 were married then yes, he would be a legal citizen, but they are gonna need a ssn on the birth certificate.....tell him to marry you dammit lol
Reply:yes you can i have a friend who now has three babys with her boyfriend an hes not legal either but all three of their kids have his last name.
