Why do Hispanic parents name their babies Jesus and Moses but American parents don't?

Hispanics and Latinos call their kids those names a lot more often than American parents. Do they think it's odd to name their babies after some of the greatest prophets?

That is true. I have even met females whose name is Jesus in South America.

I have an explanation, because there a lots of Catholics in the US as well and they don麓t name their kids Jesus.

I think American Catholics don麓t dare to name a child like the Savior. (I am also Catholic, from South America, I wouldn麓t do the same thing either). Latin American and Hispanics are just familiar with the name, because that tradition began in Spain. I even had a teacher from Spain, who belonged to a religuous congregation whose name was Jesus.

As for Moses (Mois茅s in Spanish), I don麓t really know. Perhaps is the most powerful Old Testament figure and there are so many Jewish people in the US, that is better not to offend the neighbor.
Reply:My husband is Hispanic and I think it has alot more to do with that most are more religious than Americans. From birth most are taught about saints and so forth. From my experiences, most Hispanics are way more dedicated to religion than other races. But, that's just my opinion. My nephews name is Jesus. Also, it is common for Hispanics to name their children after their saint. Each day of the calender has a saint.
Reply:well there usually prnoucnced different so...and yea thats wierd but americans callt here children wierd names that other countries would be like what the hell
Reply:It is cultural. More odd it how some american parents call their kids apple, lakuisha or raider
Reply:In our culture it's far more common to name your baby a family name or a name you just like. In other cultures names mean more to an individual than just carrying on family tradition.
Reply:It's because Hispanics are Catholic.
