Why must parents-to-be have the urge to name their babies odd names?

What is it with odd baby names? I'm hearing things such as Yuki, Odin, Aiaa(how would You even say that), Kura, Keyuri, Sienna.. Much more I'm sure.

I could understand if You were from that descent and You named Your child from that region or language, but white people are starting to name their children odd names.

What ever happened to classy names? Elizabeth, Eric, Marie, Gregory, Abigail, Andrew, Alice, Nicholas, Charlotte..etc.

Why must parents-to-be have the urge to name their babies odd names?
*APPLAUDS*

Finally ... a voice of reason amid the madness!

I think that parents-to-be are so wrapped up in their own "speshul-ness" that they want to make sure their OWN baby is so awsomely speshul, too ..........

Geeez.

A child will be special and unique in his/her own way. The very LAST thing any child needs is a name that he/she will constantly have to SPELL and EXPLAIN all his/her LIFE!!!

And about those "ethnic" names ... Leilani is wonderful for a baby girl of Hawaiian or Polynesian heritage ... Dimitry (NOT "D'Meetreay") if fine for a little boy whose heritage is Russian ...

You get it.

ADDED: Thank you in advance for all the thumbs-down I KNOW I'll get for this answer!
Reply:I think it's a weird trend too. Kids who grew up on anime calling their sons Sora (dudeeee - way feminine) or their girls Yuki. Or Yoji. Or Tidus or whatever their favourite final fantasy character was.

I'd sooner lose my toes to frostbite than have a name like McKenna.

I hate super cutesy trendy names (Neveah, Jadeyn, McKensie, Camden). Or dated names (like Crystal or Skylar)

I also totally loathe gender-confusing names (Avery or Riley for girls, Ashley or Jadeyn for boys).

I'm not a fan of those 'geographical' names like Paris or Londyn or Boston. I especially don't like 'hippy' names like Ocean and Skye.

I miss the old days of pretty, classic names. Like Victoria and Lucy.
Reply:Odin was my great great great gradfther name so i dont find that odd at all but i can see where you are going with this.. everyone has their own opinion as to whats weird and whats not. Personally i would much rather be named Yuki, Odin, Aiaa, Kura, Keyuri and Senna over Elizabeth, Marie, Abigail, Alice or Charlotte. Now, i would never name my children anything as strange as those but i dont see why people really care so much about what other people are naming their children. It just seems rude to me. In all honesty who really cares. If everyones name was Elizabeth Mary William and John this world would be very very very boring. There is a line that parents need to draw some where when it begins to get overly horrible.. like naming children after fruits and days of the week. thats just strange.
Reply:I don't like made up names Nakeesha, tamineka e.t.c and I hate misspelt names like Mikailaah and Kaiyte but I also find names like the ones you call classy boring as bat **** (no offence to people with those names my hubbies an Andrew and I am a Sarah) I prefer names that are uncommon but do actually exist. also I dont know where you live but in Australia we are a multicultural country it makes sense our names have intermingled all names have to come from somewhere Charlotte and Alice are of German descent, Eric is Scandanavian, Marie is the french form of mary and Gregory, nicholas and Andrew are Greek so whats the difference?
Reply:People want their kids to be original. I don't think everyone should pick 'classy' names. My name is Ashley and it was in the top 10 names for 10+ years. I always had to go by Ashley C. It's not cool. I always wanted an interesting name, but I agree with you people shouldn't use weird names and/or weird spellings so people don't know how to pronounce the name. I like names not in the top 50 but not names really strange names that are just too out there.
Reply:I think you can still name your baby uncommen names but still give them lovely, legit names, you don't have to go and make a name up or butcher a spelling or something. I plan on naming my next daughter (if I have one) Chrysanthe which is a legit Greek name, its not commen here in Australia.
Reply:When a person has a child it is their choice to what name it has and some people may think those names Elizabeth, Eric, Marie, Gregory, Abigail, Andrew, Alice,Nicholas, Charlotte are not classy at all. Dare to be different
Reply:I totally agree. It sounds ridiculous and when they mess with the spelling the kid is forever going to be correcting people when they have to spell it. Why not just make it a little easier? My granddaughter named her baby Magick. I nearly had a heart attack.
Reply:Some names are just weird

But also I think people want their kids names to be unique and different I know at least 18 Elizabeth's some people just don't want their kids names to be to common

But I don't get why people want to make it something that no one can even pronounce like Gryhenyiat either
Reply:haha so true some people are torturous without even knowing it

but sometimes they sound nice

as long as you dont go over bored.

my personal favourite

for a girl Marina

and for a boy Danijel (Daniel-im from Serbia so this is how it would be spelt)
Reply:They think they're giving them good names..

You know what bad names are? JerMajesty, LaPrincess, Passion, Agnes, and Phuc Dat Bich.
Reply:Yuki is not odd! My boyfriend is Japanese and I'm really considering this name. It's common in Japan.
Reply:Yep made up ridiculous names that you can not even pronounce is a stupid idea, but the parents think it is soooo cool. Sheesh, poor kids
Reply:i totally agree - i especially hate made up names that nobody knows how to pronounce, let alone spell.
Reply:People are trying to be different. But yeah...its getting a little out of hand. Like celebrities naming their kids after fruit...LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:i know its so stupid its like they want there kid to be bullied or somthing
Reply:ooo....i really dnt like nevaeh.....my bro once told me about a lady who named her kids Orangejello (oranjelo) and shithead (shi - theed) *JSR* dont be so defensive..we got ur back girl :]
