What does it mean to pick a balanced baby name?

my husband and i may be pregnant (doing the 2ww game right now) but we thought that it would be fun to pick baby names out. we feel in love with the name Joshua Eric but a friend of mine said to make sure whatever we named a baby to make sure it was balanced. what does that mean exactly?? is Joshua Eric balanced? does it have to do with picking the same cultural names cause Joshua is Hebrew and Eric is Norse. I dont understand what it means but i do love the name. is that really all that matters?

What does it mean to pick a balanced baby name?
Balance has to do with a lot of things...how it sounds, the origin of the names, the popularity of the names, etc. People on this board know a lot about balance.

Yes, I think Joshua Eric is balanced =)
Reply:The definition of a balanced name can definitely vary from person to person. Your friend might be thinking of a cultural balance. (However, I think Joshua Eric works fine if you're concerned about culture because both names have been used in American culture for decades.)

Personally, I consider a balanced name to be balanced in syllables and stress. For example, Peter Thomas Johnson doesn't sound balanced to me because each name has two syllables. If you used Alexander James Johnson, that sounds a lot better because there is variety in the number of syllables.

To answer your final question, the most important thing to worry about when naming your child is to make sure that you and your husband LOVE the name. If you think you'll still love it after saying it ten thousand times, yelling it across playgrounds, saying it to family and friends over and over, then that's the perfect name for your child. :)
Reply:I think your friend was probably talking about balanced syllables. For example, you don't want a baby name that has the first, middle, and last name all having 3 syllables each. That just wouldn't sound right, wouldn't flow well, and it would be incredibly long to say and write! So you could do a 3 syllable first name, one or two syllable middle name, and then whatever your last name is. I do think that Joshua Eric flows well and is "balanced". :o) Hope that helps!!!
Reply:I'm not sure what your friend meant by balanced but, for me, a balanced a name is a strong, classic, sophisticated name that will age nicely as he grows up. It ticks all the boxes, if you like, and Joshua Eric is that sort of name. It's strong, handsome, sophisitcated and flows perfectly. I wouldn't worry about the origins of the names, very few people know what names mean and where they come from these days.
Reply:I think it means it has to flow well together. And maybe if you pick an unusual first name, don't put it together with a middle name that's really common. I think Joshua Eric is balanced really well and it has great 'flow'. I also think that you just have to love the name and think it goes well together, and thats all that really counts. Good luck!
Reply:I thought it meant that when a person says the name they don't get tounge tied trying to get it all out. Think of it like this, when you are going to fuss at this child (and yes it will happen), you are going to say his full name, first, middle and last. So try to make sure that you don't get tounge tied when you say it really fast. My husband and I are also struggling to find a name for our second child due in September. Follow the simple rules like, make sure the initials don't spell out bad words (i.e. A.S.S) and test it's teaseability, kids are cruel and will make fun of anything they can. Also for boys this is especially true, try to find something strong (Sherwin, probably isn't going to be start quarterback). Go with what your heart tells you! Good Luck!
Reply:It means don't name you rkid a name with like 5 sylables for the first name, five for the last, and have a 2 sylabble last name. it needs to be balanced. if the first name has a lot of sylabbles, a simple 1 or 2 syllable name would suffice. Yes that name is absolutely balanced as of the two names, but i dont know your lastname so i couldnt give much more advice.
Reply:balanced might mean if it flows or not. Joshua eric is cute but it doesn't necessarily flow. basically it can't sounds like you picked two names you liked and put them together. they should complement each other. ON the other hand, it is your child! you name them what you want! I'm naming my daughter Mikayla Theresa. IT doesn't flow at all but the reason Theresa is in there is because its my middle name and my mother and my grandmothers. Plus, honestly, how many times is their middle name going to be important? Just make sure you like the first one!
Reply:Joshua Eric is definitely "balanced"

It all depends on the syllables- like, John Joe, for example. They are each one syllable and just dont flow well.

It usually is best, depending on the sounds of the name, if there is a different number of syllables in each one!

kind of confusing, hope it helps!
Reply:Ok i think she may have been talking about this

Reply:It's got something to do with Kabalarian Philosophy and how the name creates the babies destiny and other b/s!

Check this out (they actually charge you to get a balanced name for your baby and you have no say in it!, but it's got good forums on the subject!!)

Reply:she means that it should flow well. This involves the amount of syllables in each name. Like you wouldn't do two very long names like Alexandria Samantha doesn't flow, but Alexandria Loren (Luh-rin) does. Joshua Eric is very cute! It flows great!

Best wishes and hope this helps!!!
Reply:I think your friend probably meant that if you pick an unusual first name, pick a traditional middle name to balance it out. Also, make sure the first and middle name flow nicely. I wouldn't worry, Joshua Eric is very nice.
