Should I put the father's name on my babies birth certificate?

The father has not been there at all thru the pregnancy and I am not sure I feel comfortable giving him any acknowledgment. Please Help!!!

Yes, it's unethical not to. Regardless of his involvement or the status of your relationship he is the biological father. You have an obligation to put him on the birth certificate.
Reply:i didn't put my daughter's father on hers..He left me at 4 months pregnant to marry someone to keep her in the country..What really helped my decision was that when he showed up the day of her birth, the woman he left me for showed up to...as for filing for child support if you decide to(i opted not to), all the courts will do is order a paternity test if there is no name...Good luck with everything..I understand what you are going through if you need to chat!!
Reply:As for as the name on the Birth Cert. and child support, his will still have to pay. If you don't put his name it would be difficult for him to get your child if something happens to you(not that he could not, just difficult). In the future if he is not involved, you will have less to explain to your child.
Reply:If he's not there to sign the birth certificate then you can't add his name without him knowing.





But - if you plan on filing for child support, his name has to be on the certificate. So if he's there and willing to sign, then I would let him.
Reply:You really should put his name on it. Even if the father isn't there, the child will want a copy of that birth certificate one day. Better to have it filled out properly than to try to explain to your child that you were pissed at him so you left it off.
Reply:i believe that if you did not use the father's name the baby will grow up thinking that you drove his father away .. let him know that it was not your fault by doing whatever in your power to give him what most of the children have .
Reply:Don't put it on there. Like another poster said, its alot easier to put it on later than take it off....plus they do have to be there to sign it anyway. Just hit his butt up for child support when you want to.






Reply:you can and you can also give your baby your last name so that way if he signs the birth certificate you can always go back on him and collect child support
