What baby name do you like better Toby or Jamison?

I love the name Toby I have always wanted to name my son Toby but the baby's daddy wants to name it after him (Jamison) so he can be a Jr what do you think?

What baby name do you like better Toby or Jamison?
I would go with Toby Jamison. Most people DO NOT like being Juniors when they get older. This can also cause confusion with bills, etc...

I think it is a lot better tradition to use the Father's first name as the son's middle name.

However, this is something you need to work out with the baby's father. You need to come up with a compromise.
Reply:I actually like the name "Toby Jamison"... that way you both have the name you like - plus you can call him TJ, which is cute!
Reply:am like you i like toby sounds realy cute i would go for that.
Reply:I vote for Toby.

Jamison could be shortened to Jamie by littler kids, and if your child is picked on when he's in elementary school for having a "Girl's" name, he could have a few problems with his self-esteem.

I understand where the father is coming from, because my father always wanted a boy to be named after him. (He had two girls) So now, he's wanting BOTH of us to name our kids after him. We decided that if our husbands agree, we'll use our father's name as our children's middle name.

Toby Jamison sounds fine to me.
Reply:Used to be that the name of the children was dictated by the order in which they were born...same way they tend to name the kids south of the border in Latino countries...To honor your husband by giving his son his name is not a bad thing. My first wife spouted the same crap and we gave him my middle name instead...now he's 18 and he has asked me why he wasn't named after me (or any of my 4 boys!!)...so yes he will be his own "person" as chicky above touted. But if you don't mind your husband's name don't let the fact tat he all ready has it keep you from using it. Your son will always have that attachment to his daddy when he gets his name too!!
Reply:Personally, I prefer Toby.

But, how if you try to ask your baby :D ?
Reply:Toby
Reply:I hate the tradition of naming someone after there dad... the child is going to be its own person not a junior dad..... but I also hate the name Toby reminds me of a dog.... but its what you like
Reply:Juniors have a high suicide rate. And Toby is just so much better!
Reply:Out of the two, I would choose Toby, But I think of dog?
Reply:I like Jamison more than Toby
Reply:I vote for Toby also, and think that Jamison could be the middle name.
Reply:idf you are both so gun whole on the 2 names i agree with the first lady, toby jamison. i only know girls who are named toby. i personally like jamison, sorry. i hate my son's name but that is what daddy wanted to name him so we did. it's a guy hting it makes them feel more powerful or somthing i guess, try finding a nickname for him, that's what we did. hope this helped, holly
Reply:Aghhh.."naming after the father situation" LOL....

I presonally *like the rest above* Like the name Toby Jamison..that's really cute!! Good luck to you!
Reply:I like Jamison., But Toby Jamison sounds great
Reply:Toby sounds more manly
Reply:jamison
Reply:i love Toby!

Toby Jamison....T.J. very cute :)
Reply:personally i'd definatley go for Jamison. It shortens really nicely too. I don't like Toby, i think it is a little girlyish. I absolutely love Jamison and was going to call my baby that but ended up with Finley River as my b/f loved it so much! Jamison all the way!
Reply:Toby Jamison sounds good to me
Reply:Jamison's is a delicious Irish Whiskey (maybe with a different spelling, though.) If you want your son to like Irish whiskey name him Jamison. Honestly, I think I like it better than Toby.
Reply:Why not just use both names????.....Toby Jamison or Jamison Toby. This baby's name needs to be a compromise between you and the daddy. I think that these combinations are the best uses of both names.
Reply:I also prefer Toby over Jamison.
Reply:ive always liked the name toby, jamison is harder for other small children to say
Reply:To me - Toby sounds a tad girly to be a first name. Why dont you try Jamison Toby. Jamison is a strong first name...and Toby will sounds a little more masculine.

Good luck !
Reply:TOBY!!!! love it!!!

How about Toby Jamison (as a middle name)?
